Tradition of Excellence

Since 2013, Longleaf Elementary has been serving students with a commitment to fostering a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Over the decades, the school has grown alongside the vibrant Hattiesburg community, adapting and evolving to meet the needs of its diverse student body. Today, Longleaf Elementary proudly educates approximately 750 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, reflecting the dynamic growth of the area. Longleaf Elementary consistently earns recognition for its dedication to academic achievement and positive school culture. The school has been lauded for its strong Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, creating a respectful and responsible learning atmosphere.

Leadership Team

 

Dr. Leslie Thompson - Principal

Dr. Leslie Thompson, a San Antonio native, boasts 30 years in education, with 23 in Mississippi. She holds a Ph.D. from Southern Miss and two degrees from Texas State. Her extensive experience spans K-8 classrooms, showcasing a deep commitment to student learning.

Mr. Leroy Lee Jr. - Assistant Principal

Mr. Lee has 20 years of experience in education, including four years in educational leadership. The Lamar County native is a highly qualified professional holding two graduate degrees from William Carey University in Secondary Education and Educational Leadership, and an undergraduate degree from Southern Miss. He still lives in Lamar County with his wife, Saralyn, and his three high school-age children.

Mrs. Stephanie Daniels - Lead Teacher

With over 20 years in education, this professional holds a Master's in Educational Leadership from William Carey University and an undergraduate degree from Francis Marion University in South Carolina. This South Carolina native's teaching experience spans South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi, cultivating a diverse leadership background.

Mrs. Marsha Hodo - Counselor (Grades PK-2)

Marsha Hodo, a Meridian native, is a National Board Certified School Counselor with 30 years in education, 25 of which were in school counseling. She holds two degrees from Mississippi State. With a husband, Pat, and two college-aged children, she lives in Oak Grove. She brings extensive experience and dedication to the social-emotional well-being of students at Longleaf Elementary.

Mrs. Jenni Cutrer- Counselor (Grades 3-5)

Jenni Cutrer, with a Master's in Counselor Education, has dedicated over two decades to supporting student well-being. She served as a Behavior Specialist for Forrest County Schools and is now in her 12th year with the Lamar County School District, passionately helping students thrive. She lives in Hattiesburg with her husband, George, and their two college-aged children.

Ms. Mary Wyzard - Behavior Specialist

Mary Wyzard, LMFT, is a Positive Behavior Specialist for LCSD since 2016. Holding two Master's degrees (Marriage & Family Therapy, School Counseling) and a Bachelor's in Psychology/Sociology, she brings a strong background in mental health, including intensive outpatient therapy for adolescents at Pine Belt Mental Health. A Purvis native, she's dedicated to supporting student well-being.
